HOW TO HIDE CAREER GAPS IN YOUR RESUME, follow us at http://rsume.ae

There comes a time in everyone’s career where due to some reason or the other, you have to take a career break. Whether it is to raise your children, or your wish to relax and unwind from a demanding job, the reasons could be endless.

There also comes a time where you are looking to rejoin the workforce and take up career responsibilities. But how do you justify the gap that you now have in your career? Here are four simple tips:

  •          Highlight only the years of your tenure – This would work well for you if the gap in your career is measurable only by a few months. So for example, if you have worked in an organization from January 2011-June 2012, simply exclude the months and write down just the years (2011-2012.)

  •          Justify the break – There will be times where the career gap would be too long. In that case, it would be impossible to hide the gap by stating only the years. Again there could be several reasons as to why you needed to take the break. Be honest and let the employer know the reason rather than leading them to believe that you were unemployed for a long time. Mention it this way:

*NOTE: Chose to take a time-off from my career to pursue a full-time Masters Degree in Business Administration. During the break, I also volunteered at several non-profit organizations.

  •   Incorporating freelance/unpaid jobs in your resume – If you have undertaken freelance/volunteer positions, you can write them down as actual designations and describe the job responsibilities similar to how you would for any corporate position.
