An effective resume goes a long way in bagging a desired job. Here are six steps to writing a resume that marks an impression on the hiring manager.

1.   Make sure that the information regarding experiences is relevant to the post and up-to-date. If you are an experienced person, your work profile should be written such that it highlights the key responsibilities and achievements, if any. If you are a recent graduate, you should include any on-campus activities on your resume, including any leadership positions you have held. While such positions can help supplement your lack of work experience, they should be framed as professional jobs with your title and the name of the organization followed by a bulleted list of your responsibilities. Alternatively, if you've never been in a leadership position before, you might want to include them.

The goal of your resume is to sell your skills. In addition to the information you need to convey, you should consider your employer's needs before writing your resume. This will determine the type of job you apply for. If you're an entry-level candidate, you should be prepared to explain why you're the best candidate for the position. Your goal should be to make yourself stand out from the competition. If you're a manager, you'll need to make sure that your CV stands out.

2.  2.     The length of your resume should ideally not exceed 3 pages. However, if inevitable, a longer CV can be used. In some cases, a single page power CV may be furnished highlighting all key achievements and areas of expertise. Most CEO level candidates go for single page CVs.

3.   3.     It is important to organize your resume in an effective way. The objective of your resume should include your skills and experience. Your skills should be listed in order of their importance. You should also include your education and training. Your objectives should be focused and clear. A well-written resume is a must for any job. You should also have a clear understanding of the industry you are applying for. The job description should provide an overview of your qualifications. You should be sure to state your skills and qualifications in bullet points.

4.  4.     The CV should be formatted in a simple, clean style. Avoid putting too much content on one page. The same principle applies to your resume's layout: keep it as short as possible. Don't overload your document with information; instead, focus on the essentials. Don't leave out any crucial information. For example, your resume should contain only the most relevant information, excluding extraneous stuff. It should also be clear and easy to follow, and use the same font size throughout.

.   5.     Lastly, you need to proofread your resume. Proofreading helps you find any grammatical or spelling errors, and it helps you make your resume stand out. For this, you can download free templates online and customize them to fit your needs. Ensure that the content of your resume is concise and readable. It should be free of all typos and is free of any unnecessary information. A well-written resume will ensure that you have the best chance of landing a job. Proofreading is a key step in writing an effective resume. A few simple steps can go a long way in ensuring that your resume is error-free. To begin with, read your resume aloud several times. Reading your document aloud allows you to see if there are any missing words or phrases. Similarly, proofreading tools can catch errors and typos. By using online tools such as Grammarly, you can make sure that your resume is error-free before sending it out.

6.   6.    Adding references to your resume is optional, but it is good to include them on your resume. Make sure your references are available upon request. While references aren't required, it's important to make sure they are present. A reference page that is written in the third person is an excellent source for references.
