Types of Curriculum Vitae-follow us at http://www.resume.ae

There are three types of CV's that candidates use to portray their accomplishments and expertise. To contemplate the range in people and their own experiences in the employment market, there are various CV formats that can be applied to each circumstances.

There are three main types of CV that you can use to endorse yourself, your skills and expertise to a prospective employer.

Chronological CV
The chronological CV is the most traditional and widely used format. This type of CV summaries your work and educational history and is best if you have stayed in the same career for most of your working life.

Use the chronological CV when:
  •  You have progressed in a field and are looking for promotion or better job options in the same field.
  • You have no breaks in your career history.
  • You want to give emphasis on where you have worked rather than what you have achieved.
  • You are staying in the same industry.

Functional CV-based)
This type of CV emphasis on and highlights the skills and achievements that you have gained throughout your working career irrespective of where and when you assimilated them. This is useful if you have gaps in your career or if want to change career completely
l CV (Skills-based)
Use the functional CV in the following when:
  • You want to change career fields.
  • You have gaps in your career history
  • You have little experience due to just starting out or just finishing college or university.
  • You want to show a prospective employer that you possess the required skills for the job even though you do not have relevant experience in that field.

Combination CV
The combination CV is a combination of the previous two formats. The combination CV should be used when you want to highlight both skills and achievements together with your impressive work history and education.

Your skills and achievements are listed first and these are then backed up by your work and educational experience, all in all leading to an exceptionally remarkable document. If you have gaps in your career or have changed jobs frequently, the functional CV would be best suitable.

Use the combination CV when:
  • You want to show that not only do you have the right skills for the job but also the work experience to support.
  • You want to emphasis skills that you may not have used for a while.
  • You would have used a chronological CV but want to highlight your skills too.
  • You are applying for managerial or executive positions.
  • You have plenty of experience in the chosen field.
  • You need to "fill out" your CV
Whichever type of CV you choose to employ, remember that the data displayed should be set out and delivered in a clean, concise and easy to understand manner. The speech style should be punchy and the text should be full of activity-packed verbs.

Try to employ as many facts and human bodies as possible to punt up and furnish evidence of your accomplishments and achievements, and above all do not say anything negative or lie along your CV. Call us on 043554850

CV Writing or Resume Writing – What is Right?

www.resume.ae

Geographies have differences, and so do individuals, things, and what not. When it comes to applying for a job, many are not aware why they call their profile a CV or a resume. They have no idea on what is the difference between a curriculum vitae and a resume.
Here is the difference:

  •          A CV is usually two and more pages, whereas resume is two or less pages.

  •          Fresher’s prepare a resume, whereas experienced individuals prepare a CV.
  •      In the US, a CV is required for various purposes that include academic application, research positions, fellowships, grants or scientific positions. However, confidentiality of personal information is the prime aspect of US CVs.
  •        In the Gulf, Europe, Asia and Africa, CVs are loaded with personal information, and is referred as a CV, rather than a resume.
It is often beneficial to keep your CV updated.

How to have a Happy Ending at your Interview, follow us at http://resume.ae

The ending of your interview is just as important as the ending. As they always say, all that starts well, ends well. Here are a few tips on how to have a happy ending (and most likely receive a job offer) at your next interview:

·         Prepare questions – There is always a question-answer session at the end of an interview. Make sure that you have prepared a good few questions to ask. Employers appreciate candidates that show interest in the company’s processes. While you may be tempted to ask the benefits and salary package you would receive, save these questions for after you get your offer letter.

·         Deal with concerns – Job hopping can raise questions in the minds of interviewers regarding the fulfilment of your tenure at their company. If you are someone who changes jobs on a regular basis, be prepared to answer related questions. Chances are that they would consider the employment gaps before making a decision about you. In case you feel that there are some questions that have been left unsaid, feel free to ask.

·         Further process – Asking the interviews if you got the job at the end of the interview would be inappropriate. But just for your clarification, you can ask the further steps involved in the recruitment process so that you can learn if there are other interviewees in queue and by when you can hear from them.

·         Thank You – The last but not the least. A firm handshake and a sincere thank you can go a long way. Make use of follow-up letters to remind them of your interview. It also shows employers that you are keen on becoming a part of their company.

Another day and another interview. A stream of interviews have passed but you still haven’t received any formal job opportunities. What next, you ask? Another round of interviews. Whilst this cycle seems to be never-ending, do not be demotivated. Instead, look at the situation as a learning opportunity and work towards improving your skills with every interview.

Use the tips above to excel at your next job interview. Or better yet, avail our Interview Training Sessions at Resume.ae and have industry experts teach you the ropes of acing your next interview. Information to Skip on your Resume, follow us at http://resume.ae

In a hurry to make our resumes, we often add information that may be irrelevant. To help you out in the resume making process, we have created a checklist for you that tells you the information you can avoid putting on your resume. Read to find more below:

1. Personal Data: Personal Information such as your marital status, religion, etc., are not required. These are areas that employers would not be allowed to question you upon and having these aspects included in your resume can lead to an outright discrimination. Unless you are applying for positions outside your home country, where this information may be of importance, it can be included. To add more substance to your resume, you can include a link to your portfolio/personal website provided that it contains professional content.

2. Desired Salary:  Whenever possible, avoid stating your salary in your resume, unless a job position requires you to include it. If you really need to add the salary amount you are expecting, write it as a range. You do not want to quote an amount that is higher than the average offering or quote an amount that is below the starting range. Use your cover letter as a platform to address the salary range expectations.

3. A Creation Date: Whilst creating your resume, do not add the date of creation, albeit it’s being posted online. Online resume databases usually have the ability to track the creation date of your resume.

4. References: It is not necessary to include references on your resume. You can also mention “references available on request” if required, but once again this practice is dated. It is a general assumption that you will provide employers with references if asked for them.

5. Buzzwords: Yes, all employers are aware that you are probably someone who is a “team player,” and “strong communication skills.” But so does the other person, whose CV is right after yours, and the one after that too.  Needless to say, these words have become so common that they elicit a yawn every time an employer is made to go through these CV’s. Try using more active words and phrases that reflect you as a go-getter rather than someone who is just talks.

Use the tips above to build your perfect graduate resume. Like what you see but don’t have the time to implement? Visit www.resume.ae or call 800RESUME for professional CV writing services at Resume.ae, one of the leading resume writing service providers in the UAE.

5 Tips to Ace your Telephonic Interviews, follow us at http://resume.ae

Recruitment is a time consuming process and requires extensive effort in shortlisting talent from a large pool of talent. Recruiters thus prefer to utilize the power of telephonic interviews to minimize costs as well as save time.

And if you are one those people who think that telephonic interviews is the way to go, then think again. Telephonic Interviews require the same amount of preparation, even more so because of a lack of personal interaction. A telephonic interview is just as important as a face to face interview and act as a stepping stone to the next round of the interview process.

To ease the process of telephonic interviews, here are a few tips customized just for you:

1. Keep a check on your surroundings: Once you schedule your interview, think about the perfect spot to proceed with the telephone call. A noisy environment is a big no and avoid taking the interview at your desk where you are not able to communicate easily. An important pointer: if your gut says that it’s the wrong time to conduct the interview, feel free to ask the employer to reschedule the call at a later time. It shows your concern for the position and your ability to work as a professional.

2. Dress appropriately: Just because the interview is going to be conducted across two mobile phone screens, there is no reason for you to dress in your PJ’s. If you are not familiar with having formal conversations on the phone, then speaking to potential employers can feel a bit tricky. It’s best to dress for the part so that you can get right into the skin of an interviewee.

3. Get standing: Standing up while answering the interview call gives you the much needed self-confidence. It also gives you the room to walk around and feel free, rather than corner you in one spot. The use of hand gestures also makes the conversation feel more natural and keeps it flowing smoothly even though there is no-one watching you.

4. Prep for obvious interview questions: Your resume is a document used to attract employers towards you. Once your resume is screened and you receive a green signal, a face-to-face interview is conducted to observe if the skillset listed on your resume is reflected off you in person. So be prepared for any obvious questions especially if you have repeated job changes or huge career gaps.

Congratulations! With these tips you are well on your way to finalizing your dream job. Make sure to send out thank you notes after the call to add the element of personal touch. If you require more training on interview etiquettes to follow, visit www.resume.ae or call 800RESUME for Interview Training Sessions by industry experts at Resume.ae, one of the leading resume writing service providers in the UAE.

How to edit your Resume like a Pro, follow us at http://resume.ae

Writing your own resume may seem like a monumental task. How do you focus on the big picture of your career when you are so busy managing your career routine on a daily basis? This is where resume writers come in and save you from the trauma of writing about who you are and what are some of the skills that you possess.

In case you have managed to produce a decent resume, all you need to do is edit. Think about the aim of your resume and what you are trying to achieve through this resume. This will help you reconsider the guidelines that are followed by resume professionals to build you a stellar resume.
Here are two tips that are used by professional resume writers:

1. Focus on your achievements:  Sure, anyone can write that they have “excellent communication skills” or that they “worked proactively to boost sales.” But how many of these statements can be justified with relevant examples? Make sure that you make good use of percentages as they are a clear indication of your efficient work. Another way to showcase your accomplishments is by writing down your promotion. A promotion depicts your ladder of success through the organization – be it your designation or in the complexity of the job responsibilities that you perform.

2. Not everything needs to be listed in your resume: If you took the effort to list every single job responsibility that you had undertaken or all of the medals that you had won in high-school, it would defeat the purpose of an interview. The objective of your resume is to first make an impression on potential employers to ensure that interview call. Once you get that call, there is no stopping you. Think of it this way – when you want to impress someone, you put on your best clothes. Your resume needs the same, only the best content and leave the rest for later.

Use the tips above to scrape out the flab to chisel out and edit the perfect CV. Like what you see but don’t have the time to implement? Visit www.resume.ae or call 800RESUME for professional CV writing services at Resume.ae, one of the leading resume writing service providers in the UAE.

Why You Should Skip the Career Objective Section on Your Resume, follow us at http://resume.ae

Standard resume formats include the following:

  •          Career Objective
  •          Personal Summary
  •          Achievements
  •          Work Experience
  •          Education
  •          Personal Details

Looks great, right? Let’s review the list once again and see what we can eliminate.

Is a career objective really necessary when you also have your personal summary delivering the same information? Not really. Are you looking for concrete reasons as to why you should stop using a career objective? Read below to find some reasons:

1. It is old-fashioned – Career objectives were initially written to impress employers by indicating how much of an asset you would be for the company. In recent times, the reasons for your employment are obvious to companies and there is no need to mention it on paper either.

2. It is ordinary – Employers are well aware of the reason of your employment. But when you use a statement that is commonly used by thousands of people that only speaks about yourself but not about you as a part of the company, things never look up.

Now that you have got the reasons for not including the career objective, here are some alternatives that you can use instead:

1. Job Target / Job Designation – Add your target job on top of your CV. This shows your area of interest and lets employers know exactly the position you are sending your application for.

2. Personal Branding declaration – This section contains a one line statement and briefly explain who you are and the ideas you can get to improve the company’s market standing and internal processes.

Use the above mentioned tips to build your CV. Like what you see but don’t have the time to implement? Visit www.resume.ae or call 800RESUME for professional CV writing services at Resume.ae, one of the leading resume writing service providers in the UAE.

Interview Training Tips for Introverts, follow us at http://resume.ae

For someone who finds it difficult to interact with strangers or feel intense palpitations at the mere thought of going to new places, we understand that attending interviews may seem like an intimidating task. Greetings and introductions seem like a far cry from what an introvert would like their typical routine to include.

Keeping this in mind, our expert team of interview trainers from the industry have compiled a few tips and tricks that will help you breeze through the interview process:

·         Research, research and research! – Having a fair idea about what you will be getting yourself is a good place to start. Researching about the people conducting the interview enables you to learn more about their thought process and prepare yourself for the personalities you may come across.

·         Find out where you have to go – Knowing the office location will avoid last minute goof-ups like taking the wrong exit or missing a signal and help you reach way ahead of time. This would give you sufficient time to calm yourself down instead of entering the office in a frazzled manner.

·         Carry your portfolio and notes – During the interview (most likely at the end of an interview session) employers generally ask candidates if there are any questions that they would like to ask. Making notes about the questions you have in mind beforehand comes in handy when you do not have think about forgotten questions.
